“Modelling low amplitude air pressure transient propagation in building drainage and vent systems to allow system analysis and control”, Prof. John A. Swaffield, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland.
This paper demonstrates the application of modelling techniques, based on the Method of Characteristics, to local Active Control to minimise the effect of transients on appliance trap seals and as a means of assessing the most appropriate control strategy. It provides an interesting comparison between active control (Studor System) and passive control (traditional venting solution) for tall buildings.
