La Caja Mágica is the most modern tennis venue in the world; completed in 2007 and constructed in steel, wood and glass, the sports complex was designed by French architect Dominique Perrault. The name “Caja Mágica”, or “Magic Box” in English, refers to the dynamic design of the angular, shifting shell that covers the two pavilions. A series of retractable roofs cover the 3 clay courts with a total seating capacity of 20,000.
The use of Maxi-Vent solved two problems specific to this build: The moving roof needed to be completely free from any pipe interference; and the stepped nature of the seating areas meant that space for traditional stack ventilation was not available.
